Artificial Grass Infill Replacement
Artificial grass infill is a product placed between the fibers/blades of artificial grass. Infill is crucial for maintaining your lawn’s natural appearance and feel. When you step on your artificial grass lawn and notice how comfortable and soft it feels, that’s your infill at work.
Over time, your infill can shift, and the infill levels can decrease as the material gets carried away by the wind, birds, or rough weather. Maintaining your infill is crucial to keep your lawn looking its best and performing at the highest level.
Revitalize Your Artificial Grass Landscape
Infill is a heavy component layer that helps keep the turf weighted to limit the risk of wrinkling and lifting. Without proper infill depths and weight, artificial turf is prone to movement throughout the seasons.
There are dozens of infill offerings for artificial turf, and most fall under one of these three categories:
- Rubber: Crumb Rubber, Coated Rubber
- Sand: Coated Sand, Dyed sand, Silica Sand
- Organic/Natural: Camofill, Zeolite, and Others
Artificial Grass Infill Replacement
Green-R Turf only uses organic and natural infill products for our installations and replacement service. We care about the environment and only use natural infill that meets safety requirements, enhances soil and water quality, reduces pollution, and promotes a self-sustaining cycle of resources. Our choice of infill is eco-friendly, water-efficient, odor-neutralizing, and, most importantly, safe for children and pets.
The frequency of infill replenishment can vary depending on the usage of artificial grass. Generally, it’s recommended every eighteen months to ensure optimal performance. Synthetic grass infill is a vital component of a high-quality artificial turf installation.
The importance of Artificial Grass Infill
Drainage: Artificial turf infill helps with drainage by ensuring that water can percolate down through the turf. Without infill, water can pool on the surface, leading to muddy, slippery conditions and water damage to the layers below.
Resiliency: Today’s taller fibers are usually polyethylene, a non-abrasive and relatively durable material. Yet, it is a lazy fiber and needs more resilient materials to hold it up, which is done with infill material.
Shock Absorbency: Infill is often used to absorb the impact of falls.
Ballast: Infill is also used to stabilize the artificial grass landscape. By weighing down the turf, infill can help prevent movement and wrinkling.
When Will I Need to Replace the Infill?
Proper installation of the infill is essential to ensure it’s positioned correctly. The infill should be spread evenly throughout the artificial grass and then brushed or broomed into the turf fiber blades. A power broom is recommended to brush up turf fibers and let the infill work between the turf blades. Finally, water the entire area evenly with a hose to settle the material.
Also, please note that each application can be unique, and these are general guidelines.
Which Infill Works Best for Each Application?
Landscape Application:
For the budget-conscious, silica sand infill can be used for a general front or backyard installation where pets and children are absent. With children and pets, a more specialized infill is recommended.
Pet Application:
All-natural infill Zeolite / Zeodorizer neutralizes and removes Odors and bacteria. It is integrated with other components that help control the growth of bacteria, mold, and odors. Paired with one of our Microban antimicrobial artificial grasses, adding another antimicrobial layer in the infill will help with odor control.
Putting Green Application:
Silica sand is recommended for most texturized putting green applications. This finer sand will better fill in between putting green blades than the coarser sand used in landscape applications.
Playground Application:
All-natural infill Zeolite / Zeodorizer is recommended because of its integrated antimicrobial qualities. The added level of protection can offer peace of mind as children tumble and roll across the lawn.
Athletic Application:
Indoor fitness areas using Multi-Sport Turf do not require infill. However, when Multi-Sport is used in an outdoor fitness application, All-Natural Infill Zeolite / Zeodorizer is recommended because the artificial turf expands and contracts in the sun.
